Marchenko met with the management of the IMF: what was discussed

On Monday, Minister of Finance Serhiy Marchenko held a series of meetings with representatives of the International Monetary Fund – in particular, they talked about the implementation of structural beacons within the framework of the new program.

Marchenko visited the USA as part of a working visit, where together with deputies Olha Zykova and Yury Draganchuk, representatives of the National Bank of Ukraine and government commissioner for public debt management Yury Butsa, he held meetings with the IMF leadership.
At the meeting with the Director of the European Department of the IMF, Alfred Kammer, the parties discussed the impact of the great war on the economic and financial systems of Ukraine, policies and measures to overcome its consequences, as well as Ukraine’s implementation of structural beacons as part of the recently approved four-year extended financing program.
Among the key short-term directions of the foreseen reforms: strengthening of macro-financial stability, structural fiscal policy, fiscal transparency and risk management.
In addition, the program’s structural beacons relate to strengthening public investment management, deregulation of the economy and improving the business climate, strengthening the fight against corruption, and reforming the energy sector.
During a meeting with Uma Ramakrishnan, Deputy Director of the IMF Department for Strategy, Policy and Analysis, and Gavin Gray, Head of the IMF Mission in Ukraine, Marchenko noted that there is a gradual recovery of Ukraine’s economy.
“Even in conditions of active hostilities, systematic shelling and passed blackouts, domestic demand and tax revenues are increasing compared to the first months of the war,” Marchenko noted.
