Ukraine plans to export more electricity to Europe than last year

Ukraine expects that the volume of electricity exports will now be higher than last year – despite this, it will not be possible to restore the power system only through export earnings.
About this stated Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko on the air of “Edynykh Noviny”.
“Now we hope to reach the export volumes that were last year. We plan and will conduct negotiations regarding their increase as well, because today the reserve in the system allows us to do this,” Galushchenko noted.
At the same time, the minister emphasized that the priority is to ensure domestic electricity needs, so if the situation changes, exports may be stopped. “Certainly, we cannot talk about the export of electricity in the conditions, if the proper level of generation is not ensured,” he added.
Profits from the export of electricity will make it possible to attract additional financial resources for the restoration of energy facilities that were destroyed or damaged as a result of Russian attacks. However, these funds will not be enough.
“Unfortunately, we do not see an opportunity to completely cover the corresponding financial needs for the restoration of the energy system until the next heating season through exports. There are a number of other solutions that are currently being discussed. But, of course, the possibility of receiving funds from exports will provide an opportunity to financially support our generation and companies in order to have a resource,” Galushchenko explains.
Currently, it is also planned to increase the crossings between Ukraine and Poland, which will allow to increase the volume of exports.
We remind you:
Earlier, on Friday, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko signed an administrative document that allows to start the process of restoring electricity exports in conditions of surplus generating capacity.
It was reported that due to the surplus capacity in the energy system of Ukraine could get about UAH 500 million from the export of electricity.
After the first massive Russian attack on the Ukrainian energy system on October 10, Ukraine stopped export of electricity.
At the beginning of March, it was reported that Ukraine can restore export of electricity after the improvement of the situation with electricity supply in Odesa.
