“Megamarket” confirmed the removal of books from sale under the LGBT law

The Russian marketplace “Megamarket” confirmed to “Kommersant” that the service has withdrawn from sale the books specified in the list of restrictions in connection with the Russian law on the prohibition of LGBT propaganda.
At the same time, the company noted that the list was formed back in 2022 at the initiative of the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT).
“The specified list of books really exists – it was collected back in December 2022 at the initiative of AKIT by all participants of the book market in connection with the adoption of the law on the prohibition of LGBT propaganda on the Internet, mass media, books and other sources. “Megamarket” took part in the discussion and preparation of the list and, like all market participants, hid the goods from his shop window,” the press service of Megamarket informed “Kommersant”.
The list of books obtained by the marketplace was published earlier on Tuesday by journalist Alexander Plyushchev. The message did not specify where the document was received from. Among the more than 250 names in the list were the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Stephen King, Haruka Murakami, Marcel Proust, Oscar Wilde, Stefan Zweig and others.
