Ministry of Energy: Electricity tariffs will have to be increased
[ad_1]
The decision to increase electricity tariffs will have to be made, otherwise the energy system will not be able to prepare for the next winter. Deputy Minister of Energy Farid Safarov said this on the air of the national telethon “Edyny Novyni”, reports Ukrinform.

Tariff growth
“Any tariff changes during growth peaks are difficult and forced decisions. For now, the government and NCREKU are working on issues to understand how much the tariff should be increased. But we will still have to make such a decision, because otherwise the energy industry will not only be able to recover, but also prepare for the next winter, which may be much more difficult than the previous one,” said Safarov.
He added that international partners also provide support in the sphere of renewal of Ukrainian energy. This is equipment and means. So, by now, Ukraine has already received 150 million euros from the EU for the energy support fund, and a 200 million grant from the World Bank. But, according to Safarov, these resources are not enough.

Safarov noted that help will be provided for vulnerable categories of the population so that they can pay for electricity. Sources of funding for this assistance may be proceeds from electricity exports, financial assistance from partners, which are currently being negotiated.
So far, there is no final decision on what the electricity tariff should be, Safarov emphasized.
Let’s remind
According to the head of one of the energy companies, at a meeting in the President’s Office in April, the increase in the electricity tariff was discussed:
- for the population from UAH 1.44-1.68/kWh to UAH 2.88/kWh,
- for business — from UAH 3.3/kW to UAH 4.5/kW.
He emphasized that the increase in the tariff for the population will provide an additional 39 billion UAH in tariff revenue — this will allow Energoatom and thermal generation, which last year had large losses, to balance.
Currently, the tariff in Ukraine is 1.44 UAH/kWh for consumption of up to 250 kWh per month, and 1.68 UAH/kWh for consumption above this amount.
Current tariffs expire on May 1.
