The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has announced the wanted publicist Roman Popkov, who is connected with the murder of pro-war blogger Vladlen Tatarsky. “Verstka” found the corresponding card in the department’s database.

Popkov is wanted under a criminal article – what exactly, the card does not specify. It was not reported that a case was initiated against him, but last week Popkov was entered into the register of extremists and terrorists of Rosfinmonitoring, Mediazona notes.

Popkov lives in Kyiv. After Tatarsky was blown up in a St. Petersburg cafe, a number of Telegram channels suggested that Popkov might be involved in the murder. According to their information, the publicist “recruited” Daria Trepova, who then handed Tatarsky a statuette with explosives.

Popkov himself said that he communicated with Trepova only in social networks and called the assumptions about his involvement in the murder of Tatarsky a lie. The third suspect in the case is Ukrainian citizen Yury Denisov: according to the FSB, he collected information about Tatarsky. Ego, like Trepova and Popkova, was included in the list of extremists and terrorists of Rosfinmonitoring.

In the 2000s, Popkov was the leader of the Moscow branch of the National Bolshevik Party. After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he began to participate in the broadcasts and events of former State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev, who lives in Ukraine.

  • Pro-war blogger Vladlen Tatarsky was killed in an explosion in a cafe in St. Petersburg in April. The Russian authorities and the investigation claim that the Ukrainian special services are behind his murder.
