On Monday morning, residents of Rostov-on-Don and nearby Bataysk reported the sounds of an explosion. Kavkaz.Realii writes about it.
According to some reports, there were several explosions. On the video recordings published in local Telegram channels, you can hear how car alarms went off after the explosion. According to the testimony of journalists in a chat with the press service of the regional government, in some houses “glasses almost flew out.” No casualties have been reported.
Pro-military blogger Yury Kotenok claims that an air defense system was operating over Rostov-on-Don, and three Ukrainian missiles were shot down.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia has not officially commented on the explosions in Rostov.
At the same time, the governor of the Rostov region, Vasyl Golubev, said that the cause of the sound was not an explosion, but the transition of the plane to supersonic speed. According to the governor, the military informed him about this.
The day before, Golubev confirmed the attack of two drones on a military unit in the Kamensky district, as well as another drone attack on Novoshakhtinsk. All the drones were shot down, there were no casualties or damage, the governor claimed.
The authorities of the Rostov region are not the first to justify loud explosions by planes at supersonic speed. Last September, residents of several cities also reported a loud explosion. Residents of Taganrog recorded the work of air defense in the sky above the city. In addition, after the explosion, a video of a burning forest strip near the village of Krym, 20 kilometers from Rostov, was published on the Internet. The Taganrog City Hall then declared that the loud sound was not caused by an explosion, but “by the plane going supersonic.”
On August 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the headquarters of the troop group in Rostov-on-Don.
