Russia and Ukraine exchanged the bodies of dead soldiers

As a result of the exchange, the bodies of 100 dead soldiers were returned to Ukraine, the Ukrainian coordination headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war reported. 69 bodies of dead soldiers were handed over to the Russian side, State Duma deputy Shamsail Saraliev told RBC.

The last time the body exchange of dead soldiers took place on February 16. Then Ukraine returned the bodies of 58 dead, and Russia – 61 dead.

The reports do not specify whether the bodies of servicemen who, as the Russian side claims, died in the crash of the Il-76 plane in the Belgorod region on January 24, were handed over to Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, there were 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war on board the plane, who were being transported to Belgorod for exchange.

On March 1, the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatiana Moskalkova, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Russia is ready to hand over the bodies of prisoners of war who were on board the plane to Ukraine. According to her, she is in contact with the representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubynts.

At the beginning of February, the representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andrey Yusov, said that Kyiv had repeatedly approached Moscow about the return of the bodies of prisoners of war who, according to the Russian authorities, died in the crash of the IL-76. According to him, the Russian side did not respond to these appeals.
