Russia raises bank rates under the burden of war and sanctions

The administration of US President Joe Biden hopes for the continuation of bipartisan support for Ukraine in Congress and is in constant negotiations with lawmakers regarding the importance and urgency of allocating funds for Ukraine’s needs. This was stated by the spokeswoman of the White House, Karin Jean-Pierre, during a briefing on Monday, August 14.

“Regarding our engagement with Congress, senior White House administration officials, including Director of the Office of Management and Budget Shalanda Young and our Legislative Affairs Office, have had numerous in-person conversations and phone calls with lawmakers on the ground from both parties. Administration officials are conducting these discussions in order to explain the urgent needs and emphasize the urgency of this request,” the White House spokeswoman explains.

During the briefing, journalists noted that bipartisan support for initiatives related to Ukraine is declining in Congress. However, according to the representative of the White House, the administration is grateful to the American legislators for the support they have shown to Kyiv to date, and hopes for the permanence of a unified position on this issue.

“As you know, this is a full-scale invasion by Russia. And we are confident that this support will continue as we work together to ensure that the Ukrainian people have everything they need to continue the courageous fight for their freedom. This is what we hope to see and in the future (bipartisan support ed.), and we believe that it will be so,” said Karin Jean-Pierre.

The spokeswoman of the White House emphasized that this is the struggle of the Ukrainian people for their own independence against the aggressive, unprovoked war of the Russian Federation.

“I will remind you that our support was implemented in a bipartisan way, and we believe that it will continue at the bipartisan level. The Ukrainian people are fighting for their democracy, fighting for their freedom, and we believe that it is important to continue to support them. And not let’s forget that this is an unprovoked, full-scale war of the Russian Federation against the Ukrainian people,” concluded Karin Jean-Pierre.

On Friday, August 11, the White House made an official request to the US Congress for the allocation of more than 40 billion dollars for additional funding. Of this amount, an average of 24 billion dollars was allocated to Ukraine-related expenses. In particular, more than 13 billion dollars – for military aid and 8.5 billion dollars for economic and humanitarian initiatives. In addition, the request includes money for countering the criminal activities of Wagner’s group, in particular, in African countries.
