Linebacker of the Ukrainian football club “Shakhtar” Oleksandr Rosputko fled to Russia to get a Russian passport. The information was confirmed by the athlete’s father.

Rosputko did not return to his family after the match of the UEFA Youth League against the Belgian “Antwerp”. The mass media previously wrote that the football player left his football uniform at the airport, deleted all posts on social networks and stopped answering calls.

The football player’s father, Yury Rosputko, said that he could not yet explain the reasons for his son’s escape, but noted that “he will definitely be safer in Russia.”

“The information about the request for political asylum is not true. My son did not ask for it. He will simply submit the documents for a Russian passport, as he would have done for his family in Donetsk,” Rosputko Sr. said in a comment to the Kremlin-controlled publication Regnum.

Also, the father denied the information that the football player will start playing for any Russian team in the near future. As Regnum writes with reference to an unnamed source, Rosputko fled to Russia with his family through Turkey.

The Sport.ua portal notes that the sportsman has pro-Russian views, because of which he had a conflict with the team. In addition, the football player allegedly had disagreements with Shakhtar regarding further cooperation.

Shakhtar have yet to comment on the situation with the player’s escape.

In 2014, after the start of hostilities in Donbass, “Shakhtar” left Donetsk. The club’s training base is located in the Kyiv region.
