Tehran and Moscow can start the production of drones in the Russian Federation as early as 2024

The United States has said that it has information that Iran intends to build a plant for the production of drones in Russia. The enterprise can make money already next year. This will represent an increased danger for Ukraine, the countries of the Middle East and the entire world community. This was stated by the representative of the National Security Council of the White House, John Kirby.

According to him, Tehran still supplies Moscow with drones, which it uses for attacks on Ukraine, but now Iran and Russia are considering the creation of joint production closer to the war zone.

Kirby noted that the plant will be built approximately a thousand kilometers east of Moscow. According to satellite images available to the National Security Council, the production is deployed in Elabuga.

Kirby also said that as of May, Iran had sent Russia hundreds of kamikaze drones across the Caspian Sea to Makhachkala. In turn, Moscow supplies Iran with complex and expensive military equipment – missiles, electronics and anti-aircraft defense equipment.

“In total, Iran is asking Russia for billions of dollars worth of military equipment,” said a representative of the National Security Council.

Kirby reminded that companies and people involved in the transfer of military equipment to Russia for subsequent use against Ukraine face sanctions. The representative of the National Security Council emphasized that the USA and its partners supply Kyiv with the necessary weapons for defense.

  • Sources of The Wall Street Journal also reported that Iran and Russia may start joint production of drones at the beginning of the year. According to them, a delegation from Iran visited the likely production site in early January. In response, the Kremlin said that Russia has its own program to create drones.
  • At the end of last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to approve the strategy for the development of unmanned aviation until 2030 and for the perspective of 2035 by June 1, 2023.
  • Kyiv and Western countries have repeatedly accused Iran of supplying Russia with kamikaze drones, which are later used to attack Ukraine. The Russian and Iranian authorities deny this. Tehran previously announced that it was sending a small batch of drones to Moscow, but this was before Russia’s war with Ukraine. Kyiv regularly reports on the attack of Ukrainian settlements by “Shakhed” drones.
