Tereblyanskoe deposit in Transcarpathia: what geological studies have shown regarding salt reserves

Reserves of rock salt in the Tereblyan deposit reach 15.5 million tons.

About this reported Viktor Mykyta, head of Zakarpattia OVA.

“After preliminary geological studies and testing of the Tereblyan salt deposit in 2015, it was recorded that it has reserves of rock salt in the amount of 15.5 million tons of C1 category and 505.4 million tons of undetermined industrial value in C2 category,” the head noted. region

According to his information, the depth of salt within the deposit ranges from 30 to 500 m.

“This makes it possible to extract up to 300,000 tons, including 80,000 tons of “Extra” salt per year, by 2026, after the development of full production capacity, with the prospect of increasing the volume of production, subject to the completion of processing capacities,” said Mykyta.

According to preliminary calculations, by the end of 2023, technical salt can be supplied to enterprises for road maintenance in the winter period.

In the future, the deposit will be able to meet these needs of Ukraine by 100%, which is critically important given the enormous increase in the market price of this product.

We remind you:

The salt deposit in Transcarpathia will be able to supply the whole of Ukraine with cooking and technical salt. About this earlier declared President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

According to him, the development of the salt deposit in the region has already begun.

The development of the field takes place within the framework of the investment agreement with “Cation Invest” LLC.

As you know, the state-owned enterprise “Artemsil” – one of the largest in Europe in the field, stopped production in the spring of 2022, because as a result of shelling at the enterprise, the warehouse was destroyed and the mines were directly hit. Later, as a result of Russian aggression, the company’s workshops burned down, equipment was destroyed, buildings were destroyed, and employees were forced to leave their homes. Today, the city of Soledar, where “Artemsil” is located, is under temporary occupation.

In Ukraine, salt is also produced by the Drohobytsk saltworks, which in the spring of 2022 increased its capacity to 55 tons per month. But this will not be enough even to provide for the Lviv region. For comparison, “Artemsil” produced 2 million tons of salt per year.

Ukraine’s internal need for salt is up to 450,000 tons per season.
