Turkey discussed with Russia the incident with the Şükrü Okan cargo ship, which was detained by the Russian military last weekend, and warned about the inadmissibility of obstructing the movement of ships in the Black Sea.

As “European Truth” writes, this is stated in messages Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) at the Communications Department of the President of Turkey.

DMM’s message related to the refutation of reports about the alleged “attack of the Russian military on a Turkish ship”. They explained that the incident with the Şükrü Okan took place in international waters, and that the vessel, although owned by a Turkish company, was under the flag of Panama.

“Despite all this, after the interference with the movement of the vessel, interlocutors in the Russian Federation were duly warned to avoid similar attempts to escalate tensions in the Black Sea,” the Turkish administration added.

It will be recalled that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that on the morning of August 13, a Russian ship was in the Black Sea opened “warning” fire on the dry cargo Sukru Okan under the flag of Palau, bound for the port of Ismail, when the vessel did not respond to Russian demands to stop for inspection.

After that, the Russians allegedly boarded the ship and conducted an inspection, and then released the ship.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned the provocative actions of the Russian Federation regarding the Turkish civilian vessel Sukru Okan.
