The Investigative Committee of Russia reclassified the case of the murder of blogger Vladlen Tatarsky to an article about a terrorist attack. Earlier, a criminal case was initiated for murder in a socially dangerous manner. The press release of the Investigative Committee states that, according to the agency, the planning and organization of the crime took place on the territory of Ukraine. Specific customers are not named, the investigation is ongoing.

Law enforcement officers detained 26-year-old Daria Trepova from St. Petersburg yesterday. According to the investigation, she handed Tatarsky a plaster statuette containing a radio-controlled explosive device. The investigator published a video in which Trepova gives a confessional statement.

The SC’s press release also states that Trepova “adheres to opposition views and is a supporter of the Anti-Corruption Foundation.”

Earlier, the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) stated that the terrorist attack was planned “by the special services of Ukraine with the involvement of agents from among the persons cooperating with the so-called Navalny Anti-Corruption Fund.”

The adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, declared that Ukraine was not involved in the incident. He suggested that the murder of Tatarsky could be the work of Russian “partisans”. “In Russia, spiders eat each other in a jar”, – wrote Podolyak on Twitter.

The former director of FBK Ivan Zhdanov wrote to himself in Telegram that the Anti-Corruption Fund was not involved in the murder of Tatarsky. He called statements about the involvement of FBK an attempt to “hang” on the organization a false accusation of terrorism. Another associate of Alexei Navalny, Leonid Volkov, also called their request “to transfer from a sick head to a healthy one.”

SHOT and “Ostrozhno, Novosti” Telegram channels, citing their sources, stated that Roman Popkov – a former member of Eduard Limonov’s National Bolshevik Party, later an opposition activist and journalist who collaborated with Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s “MBH-Media” – could have recruited Trepova. Popkov has been living in Ukraine for several years. He repeatedly called for the overthrow of Vladimir Putin’s regime.

Roman Popkov himself also denied his involvement in Tatarsky’s murder. He said that he would never take such a risk, since he has relatives in Russia, including his mother, who lives in Bryansk. “I did not give any orders to Dasha, I did not introduce her to any Ukrainian intelligence officers. I know Dasha through social networks – she is my subscriber, she was interested in journalism,” Popkov wrote. He categorically denied his involvement in the murder, although he believes that Vladlen Tatarsky “deserved what he got.”

In addition, assumptions were made about the involvement of Trepova’s husband, Dmitry Rylov, in the crime. Rylov is a member of the Libertarian Party of Russia, a participant in opposition rallies. However, as reported in the party, Rylov has not been living in Russia for several months. He himself believes that his wife could have been framed, and she did not know that there was a bomb in the statuette. “Yes, together with Daria, we really do not support the war in Ukraine, but we believe that such actions are unacceptable. I am 100% sure that she would never have agreed to such a thing if she had known,” Rylov said.
