On Monday, the Moscow City Court extended the arrest of opposition politician Vladimir Kara-Murza for six months. He is in pre-trial detention center on the case of “fakes” about the army and treason. In total, the accused Kara-Murze may face more than 20 years in prison.
Kara-Murza complained about the deterioration of his health in the pre-trial detention center. The chief neurologist of the UFSIN in Moscow diagnosed him with “polyneuropathy”. It is included in the list of diagnoses that exclude a stay in a pre-trial detention center. However, the court rejected the request of the defense to review the medical documents and place the oppositionist under house arrest.
Also, for the first time, the court began to consider the merits of the Kara-Murza case. The process will take place in closed mode. Vladimir Kara-Murza’s lawyer, Vadym Prokhorov, told reporters after the court session that the case against the politician will be considered by a board of three judges, one of whom will probably be Sergey Podoprygorov, who is included in the “Magnitsky list”, in the compilation of which Kara-Murza himself took part .
According to Sota, Podoprygorov stated during the meeting that Kara-Murza allegedly wants to use the court as a forum “for public discrediting of the existing regime with the participation of the Western intelligence services of the CIA and MI-6.”
The next court hearing in the case of Kara-Murza will be held on March 13.
