The authorities of the Czech Republic introduced a ban on the participation of Russian athletes in competitions on the territory of the country, reports the portal Sports.ru.

The press release of the government of the Czech Republic states that the Cabinet of Ministers agreed “to prohibit the participation of athletes and teams representing the Russian Federation in competitions and matches organized on the territory of the Czech Republic.” In addition, Czech athletes were banned from participating in any competitions on the territory of Russia.

  • Russian athletes were removed from the vast majority of international competitions in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In particular, football and ice hockey teams and clubs were sanctioned.
  • In March, the International Olympic Committee recommended admitting Russians to their competitions in a neutral status, provided that they did not speak out in support of the war and were not connected to the army. This decision provoked sharp criticism in Ukraine and a number of other countries condemning Russian military aggression.
