The European Commission announced that it had reached an agreement with Ukraine’s neighbors on the import of grain. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs protested

As a result of negotiations, the European Commission reached an agreement in principle with Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products. Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis reported this on Twitter.

“I am happy to announce that we have reached a political decision on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU. We agreed with Ukraine and its 5 neighboring EU member states on how to regulate the situation,” Dombrovskis said in a video message.

A key element of the agreements reached is, in particular, the cancellation of unilateral measures on the import of Ukrainian products from these countries.

At the same time, exceptional protective measures will be applied to four products — wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds. The European Commission will allocate an additional 100 million euros to help farmers in the mentioned EU states.

In addition, investigations into the need to apply protective measures in the import of other products from Ukraine, including sunflower oil, will be initiated.

At the same time, the parties will continue to work to ensure the export of Ukrainian goods to other countries using the “solidarity corridors” of the EU.

Protest

At the same time, Ukraine expressed a protest to Poland and the European Union due to the introduction of restrictions on the import of Ukrainian products. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In particular, on April 28, the Polish embassy in Ukraine and the EU representative office in Ukraine received notes from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the categorical unacceptability of the situation regarding trade restrictions on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

The department emphasized that such restrictions, regardless of the reasons they were justified, “do not correspond to the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU and the principles and norms of the EU Single Market.”

“There are all legal grounds for the immediate resumption of the export of Ukrainian agricultural goods to Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria, as well as the continuation of unhindered exports to other EU member states and, in general, unhindered transit of all Ukrainian production to other countries, both within and and outside the EU,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ukraine called on partners to seek a balanced solution based on EU legislation, the Association Agreement and in the spirit of solidarity.
