In Russia, they introduced “R-Fon”, which its creators call “the first smartphone on the Russian operating system” and estimate it at 40 thousand rubles. It turned out to be a Chinese phone based on the Linux OS with a market value of approximately 17 thousand rubles.

“R-Fon” will be produced by the company “Rutek” of the former Minister of Communications of Russia Leonid Reiman – his plant in Zelenograd makes radios “Azart” for the Russian army, and Reiman himself has a trail of corruption scandals.

Vladimir Zykov, the head of the Russian Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers (APPSIM), was the first to publish photos of the novelty in a telegram.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Zykov said that the device will cost up to 40,000 rubles and will be released next year.

“It is clear that some spare parts will not be made in Russia, but such phones, which are made in Russia, have not yet been with such localization,” Zykov said, adding that the phone will have “Made in Russia” written on it.

“New Russian telephone”, however, is easy to find in the Eurasian Economic Commission’s “Unified Register of Notifications on Characteristics of Encryption (Cryptographic) Means and Products Containing Them”. It follows from the registry that it is manufactured by Bopel Mobile Technology Co Limited, headquartered in Hong Kong.

It is also interesting that the Rutek company, as it follows from the register, registered the notification not in Russia, but in Kazakhstan – as analysts of the Mobiltelefon.ru site assume, this was done in order to avoid sanctions.

According to Zykov, the phone will run on the Russian operating system “ROSA Mobile”, however, even the developers of this OS do not hide that it is based on the publicly available Linux OS with open source code. It is assumed that the system will be compatible with Android applications.

“R-Fon”, as stated in the message, will have a Media Tek Helio G99 processor, a 6.7″ display, a 50-megapixel main camera, 8 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of permanent memory, as well as a 5000 mAh battery. On the Russian market a smartphone with exactly the same characteristics and a similar processor is almost three times cheaper than the “R-Fon”: for example, the Chinese device Tecno Pova 5, which differs from the “Russian phone” only in that it has a larger battery, can be bought for 14470 rubles.

  • As The Wall Street Journal wrote in 2007, Leonid Reiman, whose company “Rutek” will produce “R-Fon”, was involved in the investigation of German law enforcement agencies – they investigated cases of bribery by Siemens of Russian partners in order to obtain profitable contracts. Among the recipients of kickbacks was Reiman’s offshore IPOC fund (he himself denied involvement in it), which owned a significant share of the Megafon cellular operator. Rayman also headed the Board of Directors of the Svyazinvest company, which in May 2002 signed a contract with Siemens for the supply of equipment worth about 150 million dollars. At that time, Siemens denied any ties with Reiman and rejected accusations of bribing an official.
