The Kurgan region was at risk of flooding. Water in the Tobol River and its tributaries is rising sharply. The governor of the region, Vadym Shumkov, called on residents of districts that may be flooded to evacuate.
Shumkov wrote in his Telegram channel that overnight the water level in Tobola rose by 54 centimeters and is already 5 meters, and in recent hours the water has been added by 20 centimeters. The current is noticeably accelerating. He warned that the water level will only rise in the near future, and electricity and gas may be forced to shut off.
“Compatriots, you don’t need to wait. Leave all flooded places. Take your relatives, valuables, documents and leave immediately, otherwise you may not make it due to overflowing roads,” the official wrote.
He added that evacuation and rescue teams are working in all areas that may be flooded, and in Kurgan several dozen temporary accommodation points for people have been deployed, parking lots for cars and shelters for pets have been prepared.
A state of emergency has been introduced in the Kurgan Region due to the flood. According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the peak of the flood will occur on April 14-15. Potentially, up to 62 settlements and up to 19 thousand people may be in the flood zone, Kommersant reports.
