The FSB announced the detention of a “SBU agent” and his assistant in the Kherson region

The Federal Security Service announced the detention of two Ukrainian citizens in the Russian-annexed part of the Kherson region of Ukraine on espionage charges. This was reported by “Interfax” with reference to the press service of the FSB.

The message states that “an agent of the Ukrainian special services and a person acting on his behalf” were detained, who were collecting information “about the location and number of units of the Russian Armed Forces in the territory of the Kherson region.”

According to the FSB, the collected data, including the routes and types of Russian equipment, were sent by messengers to personnel of the Security Service of Ukraine. Ukrainian special services allegedly then sent these data to the Armed Forces to correct strikes on Russian positions, the FSB claims.

The agency did not specify when the suspects were detained and under what circumstances. Both citizens of Ukraine, whose names have not been disclosed, were arrested. Criminal cases of espionage have been opened against them. They face up to 20 years in prison.

After the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine, the FSB repeatedly announced the detention of persons allegedly connected to the Ukrainian special services.

At the end of last year, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, called on employees of the security agencies to “firmly suppress” the actions of foreign special services and “promptly identify traitors, spies and saboteurs.”
