In Chelyabinsk, the Federal Security Service of Russia detained the billionaire and owner of the Chelyabinsk Electrometallurgical Combine (CHEMK) Yury Antipov. The procedural status of Antipov is unknown. It is reported that he was detained as part of an investigation into a criminal fraud case. The businessman is being investigated. It is clarified that the case is being investigated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the FSB is conducting operational work.
The media also reported that on Monday, the Arbitration Court of the Sverdlovsk Region, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, transferred the shares of three large enterprises belonging to Antipov to the ownership of the state: ChEMK, Serovsky Ferrosplav Plant and Kuznetsk Ferrosplav. The court ruled that the privatization of these industries in the 1990s was carried out illegally.
“Nowadays” clarifies that ferroalloys produced by Antipov plants are used for smelting high-quality steel, which, in turn, is used to manufacture military equipment, heat-resistant aircraft engines, impact-resistant barrels and armor-piercing shells.
In 2021, Yuri Antipov entered the list of the richest Russian businessmen according to Forbes. His fortune was estimated at 700 million dollars. As of autumn 2023, the value of his company’s assets was estimated at 34.6 billion rubles.
