The “United Russia” party, together with the All-Russian People’s Front, will ensure the implementation of all necessary organizational procedures related to the nomination of Vladimir Putin to the post of president, said the secretary of the General Council of the ruling party, the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council, Andrey Turchak.

On Saturday, December 9, the first meeting of the initiative group for the new nomination of Putin as a presidential candidate will be held in Moscow.

As Turchak said, “United Russia” will take the most active part in the election campaign, provide all its infrastructure, a network of regional, primary and local branches.

The CEC of Russia made a decision to hold presidential elections within three days – from March 15 to March 17 next year.

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed the nomination for a new term on December 8. This happened after the state awards ceremony in the Kremlin. The President spoke with people awarded the title of Hero of Russia. The chairman of the Russian regional parliament in occupied Donetsk, former field commander of the Donetsk separatists, Artyom Zhoga, asked Putin to go to the elections. The Kremlin published a video of this dialogue, in which Putin says that he “had different thoughts at different times”, but now “this is the time” that he “will be with the people and will be elected”.

  • For Putin, if elected, this will be his fifth presidential term. Amendments to the Constitution adopted in 2020 allow him to be elected for the sixth time, in which case his term of office will expire in 2036 – then Putin, according to various methods of calculation, will almost match or overtake Joseph Stalin in terms of the duration of his rule.
  • In addition to Putin, CPRF leader Gennady Zyuganov, former State Duma deputy Borys Nadezhdin, former military leader of pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk Igor Strelkov (Gyrkin), journalist from Rzhev, Ekaterina Duntsova, announced their intention to participate in the elections. The New People party plans to nominate its candidate.
