The monument to Mykola Shchors began to be dismantled in Kyiv

In Kyiv, on the morning of December 9, communal services began dismantling the monument to Soviet military leader Mykola Shchors on Taras Shevchenko Boulevard.

Before the start of work, the monument’s protected status was removed. In the future, the monument will be kept in the State Aviation Museum of Ukraine named after Antonov.

At the beginning of November, the government of Ukraine allowed the dismantling of monuments to the poet Alexander Pushkin, Shchors and other Russian and Soviet figures in a number of Ukrainian cities. We are talking about those monuments that were listed in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Cultural Heritage of National Importance, notes UNIAN.

Nikolay Shchors was an officer of the Russian Imperial Army, and during the Civil War he became the commander of a division of the Red Army. He died in August 1919 in the battles against the Galician army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR). The emu monument was installed in Kyiv in 1954, writes RBC.
