“The International Union of Modern Pentathlon announces its full support for a structured return to sports competitions for individual athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports based on the recommendations for international federations published by the International Olympic Committee,” the statement says.

The organization noted that they support the return of “independent neutral athletes” with Russian and Belarusian passports to allow athletes of all nationalities to compete in accordance with the Olympic Charter and especially the principle of non-discrimination.

“We are firmly convinced that sport should be politically neutral and now, more than ever, should act as a means of peace and a symbol of solidarity between athletes. The International Union will now work on developing the necessary independent verification processes to facilitate the return of these athletes, in consultation with the IOC and the Association of International Summer Olympic Federations,” the organization added.

Also, the International Union of Modern Pentathlon emphasized that it confirms its unwavering support for the athletes of Ukraine and the communities that suffered so terribly as a result of the full-scale invasion of Russia with the support of Belarus.

“Our determination to help and reassure the Ukrainian modern pentathlon community, especially in support of athletes who continue to train and compete outside their family, is the same as during the invasion in February 2022,” the International Union summed up.

FIBA did not allow the Russian national team to qualify for the 2024 Olympics.
