On June 22, members of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted against the recognition of the International Boxing Association (IBA).
The association remained one of the few that admitted Russians and Belarusians to competitions under its auspices without restrictions.

IOC Director General Christophe de Kepper also called for the IBA to retain the right to hold a boxing tournament at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

In the spring of last year, the IOC recommended that international sports federations suspend Russians from participating in competitions. The IBA did not support the ban and allowed Russian and Belarusian boxers to compete under their own flag. This led to a boycott of the World Cup in Tashkent by 17 countries, including the USA. As a result, the IOC declared the need for sanctions against the IBA.

Since 2020, the association has been headed by Russian Umar Kremlev. The IOC has previously expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of reforms in the IBA.

In the charter of the main world boxing structure recognized by the International Olympic Committee, the IBA may soon replace the World Boxing Association, created in the spring of 2023 by countries that boycotted official IBA competitions.
