The mass media reported that Putin’s confidant Isinbayev lives in Spain

Russian athlete, two-time Olympic champion Yelena Isynbayeva moved to Spain. This is reported by the Spanish publication El Digital Sur.

According to journalists, Isynbayeva is in the Canary Islands, in Tenerife. El Digital Sur writes that the athlete lives in a luxurious complex, but leads a restrained lifestyle.

Isynbayeva has not yet commented on the publication.

The athlete is the owner of 28 world records in the pole vault. In 2012, Isynbayeva was Vladimir Putin’s confidant in the presidential elections. She was a member of the working group on amending the Russian Constitution. The adopted amendments allowed the President of Russia to remain in power until 2036.

In May 2015, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu awarded her the rank of major. Before that, she signed a five-year contract with the Ministry of Defense and was appointed to the military post of athletics instructor of the Central Army Sports Club. In November 2017, she said that she was joining the Putin Team movement, which was created by Russian hockey player Alexander Ovechkin.

In February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy imposed sanctions against Isinbaeva for supporting a full-scale Russian invasion.

Isynbaeva is also a member of the International Olympic Committee. In June 2023, the IOC Ethics Committee announced that Isinbayeva would be investigated for support of hostilities and contractual obligations with military structures. It was noted that only the period after February 24, 2022 will be taken into account.

The Norwegian publication NRK, citing a representative of the committee, later wrote that Isinbayeva was allowed to stay at the IOC.
