The prosecutor requested a 9-year term for the writer Dmytro Hlukhovsky

The prosecutor’s office requests that the writer Dmitry Glukhovsky be sentenced to nine years in prison in the case of the so-called fakes about the army, Mediazon reports from the courtroom. The writer repeatedly condemned the war in Ukraine. Glukhovsky does not live in Russia, his trial is being held in absentia.

The testimony against the writer was given by an employee of the pro-military news agency NewsFront Yulia Lozanova (Vityazeva), as well as the editor of the “Rupor Moskvy” website and ANO “Analytical Center for Security Problems” Ivan Klymov.

Glukhovsky’s lawyer, Veronika Polyakova, called his prosecution political, and the charges filed did not comply with the law. She demands an acquittal.

The criminal case against Hlukhovsky was transferred to the Basmanny District Court of Moscow in February. According to the investigation, in the period from March to May 2022, Glukhovsky, while outside Russia, “posted text messages and videos on social networks containing obviously false information about the actions of Russian servicemen” in Ukraine.

• After the start of Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine, Glukhovsky sharply criticized the actions of Vladimir Putin. In his social networks, the writer talked about the murders of Ukrainian civilians and the losses of the Russian army. After that, Glukhovsky was recognized as a “foreign agent”, a criminal case was opened against him and he was put on an international wanted list, since he has been living abroad for the past few years. The Russian court arrested the writer in absentia.
