A statement on behalf of the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences in support of its former director Valery Garbuzov appeared on the website of “Nezavisimoya Gazeta” and quickly disappeared.

The statement, the link to which was available on the newspaper’s website for a long time and which was saved in Google’s cache, managed to be read by the Russian-American Ivan Kurilla. He talked about the institute’s letter on Facebook.

According to the statement, the ISKRAN team is outraged by the “unbridled slander campaign” in the mass media after the publication of Garbuzov’s article on Russian propaganda. The institute calls “false, baseless and demonstrably inflated accusations” – in particular, in the broadcast of propagandist Vladimir Solovyov – an attempt to strike at the Russian school of American studies “with the aim of discrediting it”.

After the publication of the article, Garbuzov said that he had been removed from the post of director of ISKRAN. In response, he wrote another column, which was published exactly at the same time as the institute’s deleted application.

In the new text, Garbuzov again emphasized that media myths contribute to the temporary consolidation of society around power in order to achieve a certain goal. In addition, he asserts that “from now on, no one will succeed in embedding segments of Western culture and way of life in concrete.”
