The Supreme Court overturned the verdict in the case of the rehabilitation of Nazism against Mikhail Nalymov, the leader of the “Take Lenin” movement. In November last year, the court sentenced him to three years in prison after publishing collages combining Soviet and Satanic symbols on social networks. In particular, Nalymov posted collages with the Order of the Patriotic War and St. George’s Ribbon, as well as photos from the Victory Day parade.

Nalymov is a nationalist and monarchist, a frequent participant in the “Russian Marches”. According to his conviction, the Soviet power was a satanic creation, and Vladimir Lenin was the Antichrist. According to Nalymov, Soviet symbols were also proof of this – he equated the red star with the devil’s pentagram. The current power in Russia, as Nalymov believes, is also in the hands of Satanists.

Nalymov appealed the sentence and reached the Supreme Court. There it was established that the basis of the case was an examination performed by an incompetent specialist. In all probability, we are talking about the director of the organization “Nezavisimy ekspert” Danyla Mikheev. His conclusions were used by the courts to impose real terms on those accused of justifying terrorism.

Mikheev appeared in court as an expert witness on behalf of the Russian government at the hearings that led to the detention of opposition leader Vladimir Kara-Murza. The court subsequently sentenced him to 25 years in a strict-regime prison for treason.

Mikheev is now fighting in Donbass. The Supreme Court decided that Mikheev’s education as a conflict specialist was insufficient to carry out examinations relevant in criminal cases, and overturned Nalymov’s sentence and sent him back to the appeals court in Moscow for consideration.
