The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced a citizen of Ukraine, Dmytro Golubev, to 18 years in a strict-regime prison, and found him guilty, including, of committing an act of international terrorism. This was reported by the Russian mass media on Thursday, November 23, with reference to the press service of the court.

According to the FSB investigation, Dmitry Golubev set off an explosion in the building of the Interdistrict Registration and Examination Department of the Traffic Police in Melitopol and planned two more terrorist attacks – on the road and near the military-civil administration of the Zaporozhye region, Kommersant reports.

The court found that in March 2022, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine recruited Golubev and persuaded him to carry out a series of explosions in Melitopol, writes RBC. In August of the same year, as the publication says, Golubev made two improvised explosive devices, one of which later went off in the road inspection building, damaging the facade and interior.

In media publications with reference to the conclusions of the investigation, it is also stated that the defendant opposed the Russian authorities and the special military operation launched by them (this is how the Russian leadership calls the invasion of Ukraine – RS.).

In court, Dmitry Golubev recognized the factual circumstances of the case, but did not agree with their qualification, Kommersant notes.

Kyiv did not comment on the sentence.

  • Melitopol was captured by Russian troops at the beginning of March last year – that is, shortly after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion. On September 30, 2022, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, signed a decree on the annexation of a part of the Zaporozhye region, where the city is located, along with several other occupied Ukrainian territories, to Russia. This decision is not recognized by the vast majority of countries in the world.
