The water level in the Tobol River near Kurgan rose by 23 centimeters in four hours and exceeded the six-meter mark. The press service of the regional government reported this on the morning of April 15. Upon reaching six meters, according to the authorities’ forecasts, flooding of the right-bank part of the Tobol and the lower part of the left bank should begin.

The authorities of the Kurgan region warned about the threat of flooding a day earlier: water in the Tobol River and its tributaries is rising sharply, and the current is noticeably accelerating. The governor of the region called on local residents to evacuate.

Due to the threat of flooding, a state of emergency was declared in Kurgan on April 8. According to forecasts of the main administration of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 62 settlements may be flooded in the region, potentially almost 19 thousand people may be in the flooded zone. More than seven thousand people were evacuated as a precaution. It is expected that the level of the Tobol River in the Kurgan area will be from 9 to 10 meters higher than the 1994 record.

In Tomsk, the water partially destroyed the earth dam of the Communal Bridge, located on the left bank of the Tomsk River. The video of the state of the dam was published by the Telegram channel “Region-70 Tomsk”.

It is reported that the water destroyed the road passing under the bridge. The Communal bridge itself is not threatened, the administration said. The water level in Tomy near the Communal Bridge rose by one meter to 860 centimeters per day, with a critical level of 890 centimeters. 11 houses were flooded in the Ivolginsky district of Buryatia, Governor Alexey Tsydenov said. The authorities evacuated 22 people, including six children, from the flooded zone. The cause of the flood was an ice jam on the Selenge River. “Today, according to the plan, the explosion of the traffic jam by the sappers of the Eastern Military District and the Ministry of Emergency Situations,” Tsydenov wrote.

Meanwhile, the authorities will allocate money to the residents of the Orenburg region, who suffered from the floods, to rent housing for three months, the press service of the regional government reported.
