The White House again accused North Korea of supplying Russia with weapons

[ad_1]

North Korea recently provided Russia with a batch of weapons. This was stated by White House National Security Adviser John Kirby. He called the event disturbing and expressed concern about the expansion of military relations between Moscow and Pyongyang.

The White House has published a photo that allegedly shows a shipment of ammunition from a warehouse in North Korea. The weapons were loaded onto a ship under the Russian flag and sent to a warehouse on the southwestern border of Russia. According to Washington, the delivery was made between September 7 and October 1.

New satellite data indicate a sharp increase in railway traffic along the border between North Korea and Russia. This may indicate that the DPRK is actively supplying ammunition to Russia, the American side claims.

The first reports of a possible military partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang appeared last month, when North Korean leader Kim Jong-un traveled to Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin and visit key military facilities in the country’s Far East. The American intelligence community suspects that Kim Jong-un wants to receive sophisticated Russian weapons technology in exchange for ammunition to develop his nuclear program.

According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies of the USA, satellite images as of October 5 recorded an unprecedented level of movement of freight cars at the Tumangan border station. About 73 wagons are visible in the pictures, while a review of previous satellite images over the past five years showed no more than 20 wagons at this station, Voice of America reports.

Moscow has not yet commented on the White House’s message.

In the summer, the Financial Times reported that the Ukrainian army also used North Korean weapons to strike Russian positions. The military told the newspaper that North Korean munitions often misfire or fail to explode. Judging by the markings, they were manufactured in the 1980s and 1990s.

The artillerymen interviewed by the FT did not clarify where the North Korean missiles come from in Ukraine. The military said that the ammunition was seized from the ship by a friendly state. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense suggested that the North Korean missiles could have been captured.

At the end of last year, the US authorities announced the transfer of weapons by North Korea to PMC “Wagner”. The Russian Foreign Ministry then rejected Washington’s accusations, calling them a lie from beginning to end.
