Transport disruptions expected again in France on 10th day of strikes over pension reform

In France, on Tuesday, March 28, traffic difficulties are again expected due to the continuation of mass strikes in connection with the approval of an unpopular pension reform.

Many unions have called on their members to strike again, making Tuesday the 10th day of mass strikes since the president and government decided to approve pension reforms bypassing parliament.

In connection with the protests, disruptions are expected in many spheres of everyday life, primarily in transport. Paris public transport operator RATP expects very large disruptions to commuter trains and some metro lines, while buses and trams are expected to run on a normal schedule.

Passengers of long-distance trains are also in for trouble – approximately three out of five TGV trains and two-thirds of TER trains will go on flights. The SNCF operator advises, if possible, to postpone trips to another day.

Due to the ongoing strike of air traffic controllers, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC)

again ordered to cancel about 20% of flights to “Paris-Orly” airport, Marseille, Toulouse and Bordeaux.

In addition to transport workers, there are also strikes in many other areas – from education to port staff and scavengers. The protests of the latter became a big problem for Paris and the authorities had to return part of scavengers to work forciblyin order to prevent a total collapse with the removal of waste.
