Ukraine called on the IOC to ban the participation of athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus in international competitions

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to the International Olympic Committee with a request to ban the participation of athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus in international competitions. He writes about this with a link to the Telegram page of People’s Deputy Alexei Goncharenko.

“As long as the war is going on, and Russia is destroying the Ukrainian people, the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes will look like support for the war and appeasement of the aggressor,” the appeal says.

The Council also appealed to the parliaments of the world, the national Olympic committees of the countries of the world and international sports federations with a call to edit and ban the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes, including in the Olympic Games, until the end of the armed aggression against Ukraine, including the withdrawal of troops from the entire territory of Ukraine and the decision the issue of compensation for losses caused by the Russian Federation to Ukraine.

The IOC published a statement in which it was assumed that the Russians and Belarusians would be able to compete at the Olympics in Paris under a neutral flag.

Later, the IOC commented on the possible admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. The organization noted that the performance under the neutral flag proved itself well.

The Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Vadym Gutzait, stated that Ukraine may refuse to participate in the 2024 Olympics, which should be held in Paris, due to the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the competition.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on the IOC to stop covering the crimes of the Russian Federation with white flags.
