Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the so-called gender change – transgender transition in Russia. The document is published on the official portal of legal information.
According to the document, surgical intervention and hormonal therapy in the framework of transgender transition will be prohibited in Russia. They are allowed only for “treatment of congenital physiological anomalies of sex formation in children.”
In addition, in Russian documents it will be forbidden to change the gender marker, even if the trans transition took place abroad. Transpersons will be prohibited from adopting and adopting children, and they will be given guardianship and guardianship over them. Also, the state annuls marriages if at least one of the spouses has already made a transgender transition.
The law enters into force from the day of its publication.
- Since December 2022, the dissemination of positive information about homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism has been prohibited in Russia. Fines of up to 400,000 rubles for citizens and up to 5 million rubles for organizations are provided for this.
