The YouTube video hosting administration has blocked several dozen regional channels of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK), among them the channels of newsrooms in Rostov-on-Don, Pskov, Vologda, and Murmansk. The reasons for the blocking have not yet been officially announced.

Earlier, video hosting deleted the channel of the Russian film director Nikita Mikhalkov “BesogonTV” “for numerous violations of the rules regarding discriminatory statements.”

In total, after the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, YouTube already blocked hundreds of Russian channels, in particular, the accounts of the Federation Council, the State Duma, the TV channels “Russia 24”, Russia Today, the First Channel, hosted by Vladimir Solovyov.

  • Recently, calls to block YouTube video hosting on the territory of the country have become increasingly common in Russia. Members of the Federation Council and deputies of the State Duma made such a demand. Last year, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the private military company “Wagner”, contacted the Prosecutor General’s Office about this. He also demanded that the activities of the Google company, which owns YouTube, be recognized as undesirable on the territory of Russia.
