From September 1, schoolchildren will study in several formats, depending on the security situation on the ground. Where there is a threat to the life or health of children, there will be no face-to-face education, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reports. “On the part of OVA, there should be regular monitoring of the security situation in communities. Local authorities best understand the situation in their own communities, and therefore the final decisions about the training format will be made on the ground,” Shmyhal writes. The government is also introducing a new form of education in selected remote schools in each region. Students who are abroad will study the Ukrainian component of the school curriculum. This part of the training will be credited to them automatically, says Shmyhal. The new format was introduced in order to maintain the connection of displaced children with Ukraine and to facilitate their return home. According to Shmyhal, now 68% of educational institutions have various types of shelters. This makes it possible to place 4.7 million students and teachers there. “But this is not enough. Local authorities should act more actively. The government allocated UAH 1.5 billion for shelters back in April,” says Shmyhal. In 2023, the government plans to equip almost 1,500 shelters, but in total 5,400 must be built. All of them must meet the criteria of reliability, accessibility and energy efficiency, the Prime Minister adds.
