Return Alive Army Relief Fund and Ukrainian Truth will hold a joint art auction to raise funds for the 10th Saka Marine Aviation Brigade (Crimea). The works of famous Ukrainian artists will be sold at the auction. The central series will be dedicated by the artists to citizens who resist the Russian occupiers in Crimea – Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar political prisoners and activists: Nariman Dzhelal, Server Mustafayev, Galina Dovgopolii, Seyran Saliyev, Vladyslav Yesipenko, Iryna Danylovich, Bohdan Ziza, Servet Gaziyev and Emir-Usein Kuku. Alevtyna Kahidze, Vartan Markaryan, Rustem Skybin, Olena Kainska, Zirka Savka, Kateryna Kozynska and others created their works for people who are persecuted by the Russian Federation in Crimea. On February 27, at 6:30 p.m., the Ukrainian PEN will open an exhibition of works dedicated to Crimean political prisoners and activists resisting the occupation. The exhibition and online auction will run from February 27 to March 27. It will be possible to view the works at the address of Kyiv, str. Lukyanivska, 14a, the exhibition will be open every Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on days when events take place in the space of PEN Ukraine. Alevtyna Kakhidze painted a series of works about nurse Iryna Danylovych Nurse and journalist Iryna Danylovych were kidnapped by FSB officers on April 29, 2022 and kept in the basement until May 7. In January 2023, Danylovych was sentenced to 7 years in prison. “I gathered information about Ira Danylovych’s court proceedings on the Internet, which is almost non-existent, I talked with her relatives – to imagine that I was there…” – says Alevtina Kahidze, the author of a series of paintings dedicated to her. Alevtyna Kakhidze is an artist, performance artist, curator and gardener. In her works and performances, she explores consumer culture, the world of plants and animals, feminism, and justice. In April 2014, she created the project “Strawberry Andriivna” about her mother’s life in the “DNR”. The project was interrupted by the death of the artist’s mother at a roadblock on January 16, 2019. Alyeta’s work dedicated to the full-scale invasion can now be seen in the Art Arsenal at the “Heart of the Earth” exhibition. Kahidze’s works are kept in the collections of major Ukrainian museums and in private collections. In December 2022, the human rights defender filed lawsuits against three Russian pre-trial detention centers where he was held before the colony. Zirka Savka works with different materials and in different genres. He is most interested in social topics, relationships between people, reactions to external stimuli. And in his works he works with the shape of the human body, its plasticity and originality. Kateryna Kozynska tells the story of Seyran Saliev in a series of pictures. After the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, Kuresh Seyran Saliev, a philologist of the Crimean Tatar language by education, tour guide and judge of the national Crimean Tatar struggle, began to visit courts on fabricated cases as a citizen journalist. He was eventually arrested, charged with “terrorism” and sentenced to 16 years in prison. “We have never met personally, but I really feel his passion and desire for freedom, I share his desire to live on his native land, I am inspired by his heroism and indomitability in resistance against Russia,” says artist Kateryna Kozynska about Saliev, to whom her series of works is dedicated . Before the full-scale invasion, Kateryna Kozynska photographed actors, created professional portfolios, music album covers and theater posters. Now, with the help of photography, he tells the stories of indomitable Ukrainians. In addition to a series of works dedicated to Crimean political prisoners, such well-known artists as Zhanna Kadyrova, Nikita Kadan, Vlada Ralko, Volodymyr Kuznetsov, Lada Nakonechna, Volodymyr Budnikov, Kseniya Hnylytska, Yevhen presented their ready-made works at a joint auction by UP and “Return Alive” Korshunov, Serhiy Sabakar, Oleksiy Sai, Yuriy Bolsa, Taras Kovach and Anatolii Babiichuk.
