The tape consists of footage that Chernov and his colleagues sent from Mariupol to the world media, telling about the events in the city: the deaths of children and adults, the creation of mass graves, the maternity hospital destroyed by a Russian aerial bomb, and other Russian war crimes. Photographer Yevhen Maloletka and producer Vasylisa Stepanenko participated in the creation of the film. Together with Chernov, as part of the Associated Press film crew, they became the only international journalists who remained in Mariupol and continued to document the crimes of the Russian Federation. For this work, Chernov, Maloletka and Stepanenko received the Pulitzer Prize. The world premiere of “20 Days in Mariupol” took place at the Sundance Film Festival, in the World Cinema Documentary Competition section. There he received the prize of audience sympathy. The Ukrainian premiere took place at the Docudays UA festival in June 2023. Here the film won two awards: the main prize of the DOCU/UKRAINE competition and the prize of audience sympathy. In 2022, two full-length films from Ukraine applied for the American Film Academy Award – the film “Klondike” directed by Maryna Er Horbach and “Sniper. White Raven” directed by Maryan Bushan. This drama tells the story of a family that found itself at the epicenter of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash, which was shot down by pro-Russian separatists from a Russian Buk installation on July 17, 2014, near the village of Hrabovo in the Donetsk region.
