In the suburbs of Chicago, a 71-year-old man brutally killed a 6-year-old boy named Wadea Al-Fayoume with a knife and tried to strangle his mother.
The abuser stabbed the boy 26 times because of his “hatred of Muslims and the fighting in Israel and Gaza,” reports The New York Times. The man was detained and a court hearing began.
Wadea Al-Fayoume is described as an ordinary American boy from a Palestinian family. He loved football, Lego, swimming, jumping.
He celebrated his 6th birthday 8 days before the incident.

The law enforcement officers found out that he was killed by the landlord of the house the family was renting, Joseph M. Chubu. Prosecutors described him as an “evil, volatile, violent and paranoid person.”
Family representative Youssef Hannon said there were “no signs of anything wrong” between the attacker, Joseph Chuba, and the victims before the killing.
The boy and his mother lived in two rented rooms in a house owned by Mr. Chuba. He even came to Vadea’s birthday.
“He was kind to the whole family, but especially to the child, whom he treated like a grandchild. He brought him gifts, toys”Mr Hannon said in a BBC commentary.

The prosecutor said at the court hearing that the owner was angry with Vadea’s mother “because of what is happening in Jerusalem.” The woman answered him: “Let’s pray for peace.” Then Chuba pounced on her with a knife.
Later, he tried to strangle the woman with the words “You Muslims must die.”
Law enforcement officers also discovered that Mr. Chuba listened to conservative radio and was paranoid about the presence of a Palestinian-American family in his home.
At the same time, Hanaan Shahin moved to the United States 12 years ago, and Vadea was born there.
“When Wade was stabbed, his last words to his mother were, ‘Mom, I’m fine.’ You know what, he’s fine. He’s in a better place” said another uncle, Mahmoud Yusef.
Mr Chuba appeared in court on October 16 on charges of murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and two hate crimes.
For now, Judge Donald DeWilkins has ordered Mr. Chuba to be held in custody without the possibility of release.
