50 people were held in labor slavery: a criminal group was detained in Dnipro

Four residents of Dnipro kept people in labor slavery – on unpaid agricultural and construction work in the territory of the region.

In total, law enforcement officers managed to free 50 people, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported.

The investigators established that the organizers of the scheme were looking for internally displaced persons and socially vulnerable citizens who did not have a permanent place of residence at the train stations.

They were invited to the so-called rehabilitation center under the guise of a public organization, where they were promised free housing, food and employment.

The law enforcement officers managed to free 50 people

People were moved to a house with inadequate living conditions and forced to work without pay in the most difficult jobs.

Documents and means of communication were taken from citizens. If the recruits tried to escape, they were psychologically pressured and threatened with beatings.

Perpetrators face up to 12 years in prison

During the search of the house of the participants of the scheme, law enforcement officers seized draft notes, phones and cars.

The perpetrators were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, preventive measures were taken in the form of detention.

If they are found guilty, they face up to 12 years in prison.

As a reminder, from 2019 to 2022, more than 46,000 Ukrainians were in situations related to human trafficking.
