6-year-old Solomiyka, who received a heart transplant from a dead boy for the first time in Ukraine, was discharged from the hospital. This was announced by the Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko. The donor for Solomia was a 4-year-old boy, Yura, who was declared brain dead due to an aneurysm. The child’s parents gave permission for the posthumous donation of their son’s heart and other organs, thanks to which it was possible to save three children. Solomia’s operation was performed at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. “I want to thank Yura’s parents, who, despite the heavy loss, showed us all an example of how even in the darkest times you can do good deeds – the lives of three children were saved,” Viktor Lyashko said. 6-year-old Solomiyka, who received a heart transplant from a dead boy for the first time in Ukraine, was discharged from the hospital. Together with Solomiyka, 17-year-old Yuliana was discharged from the hospital, who underwent a heart transplant a day before Solomiyka in Lviv. According to the Ministry of Health, in 6 months of 2023, 257 transplants were performed in Ukraine, which was almost 70% of the number of transplant interventions that were performed in 2022 and more than 80% compared to 2021. The donor for Solomia was a 4-year-old boy, Yura, who was declared brain dead due to an aneurysm. Every year in Ukraine, about 5,000 people need organ transplants. The child’s parents gave permission for the posthumous donation of their son’s heart and other organs. “For them, this operation is the only chance for life.
