Polish journalist and translator Erzya Redlykh died at the age of 93, the publication “New Poland” reported. He was the deputy editor-in-chief there. From 1997 to 2004, the journalist worked as a correspondent for Radio Liberty.
Redlich was born in Wieliczka, a small mining town near Kraków, in 1950 he went to study in the USSR, graduated from the political and economic faculty of the Leningrad University. Upon his return, he worked in the newspaper “Zyche Varshavy”, a semi-official organ of the Polish government, and later was one of the creators of the “Letters on Economy” program on Polish television.
The program was very popular in Poland, despite censorship, discussing the problems of the economy and society, raising questions about the need for the country’s transition to the market and harshly criticizing the communist system. It was closed when martial law was introduced in the country in December 1981.
In 1990-1993, Redlykh headed a group of television journalists of Polish television in Moscow. Later, he became a journalist for Radio Svoboda. Since 1999, he has been a co-editor of the Russian-language “New Poland”. The publication is devoted to intercultural dialogue between Poland and Russia and tells Russian readers about events in Poland. In 2010, the Russian prosecutor’s office suspected him of spreading extremist materials.
