The Verkhovna Rada registered two draft laws that will regulate the activities of psychologists and psychotherapists in Ukraine, as well as increase penalties for providing psychological assistance to people who do not have such a right. The relevant documents were published on the website of the parliament. The first draft of the law makes changes to some legislative acts regarding the mental health care system and services in the field of mental health. The second aims to introduce administrative and criminal liability for: provision of psychological assistance to people who do not have such a right; dissemination of inaccurate information about a person’s medical education or medical specialty. Artem Osypyan, a psychologist and volunteer at the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on his Facebook page called the registration of draft laws “the first step towards solving global issues of mental health of Ukrainians.” According to him, if laws are passed, associations of psychologists and psychotherapists can be recognized by the state as subjects of self-government of specialists in the field of mental health. “This is a historic moment for psychologists and psychotherapists of Ukraine. Finally, the issue of regulating the activities of psychologists and psychotherapists can be resolved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Everyone who turns to a psychologist or psychotherapist can be protected in their right to access quality care,” Artem noted. Osypyan We will remind you that journalists published an investigation about one of the popular psychologists of Ukraine, Spartak Subbota. In social networks, people began to share their impressions of the investigation. Read also: When you should leave your psychotherapist: 10 red flags
