The Ministry of Internal Affairs handed over digitized copies of more than 1,000 criminal cases from the period of the Genocide to the Holodomor Museum.

As the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko reported, numerous testimonies of people have been preserved in the archives, which confirm the commission of a cruel and cynical crime against humanity – genocide by hunger.

He published some quotes from the testimony:

  • “During the famine in 1920-21, our family – father, mother, two brothers and a sister – died, and I was left alone. I was 18 years old then […] In 1931, I joined the collective farm named after Chubarya and have been working there ever since. I have no family, I live alone.

In April (I don’t remember which date), I returned home from work, it was already dark. When she entered the house and opened it, she saw a boy of 8-9 years old who was looking for something in my absence. I turned to him: “Why did you come and what are you looking for?” The boy replied: “I was looking for bread…”

  • “There is a case that a collective farm worker from the village of Rekechenets, Yuzvak Natalka, killed and ate her two children, one on Easter. Now, if anyone asks her where her children are, why did you eat them, she says: “It’s not your business, no I could watch their suffering and my needs forced me to do it. And you shoot me, so I don’t suffer, that’s what starvation leads to.”

Klymenko says that almost a hundred years later, the enemy has not given up his goal – to destroy our identity, take away our freedom and deprive us of our independence.

“The means are still the same – terror and genocide. Deportation of our children, torture and murder, destruction of monuments, destruction of our fields. We are carefully collecting evidence, documenting all the war crimes of the occupiers. They will definitely be responsible for everything.” – said the Minister of Internal Affairs.
