Experts say a low-cost biopsy can help diagnose the disease at an early stage. This, in turn, will speed up treatment and potentially increase survival rates.
The TriNetra-Glio blood test works by isolating glial cells that have “escaped” from the tumor and are circulating in the blood. Selected cells are stained and identified under a microscope.

Researchers at the Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Research found that this test can accurately diagnose a number of brain tumors, including glioblastoma, the most common type of high-grade brain tumor. It is also effective in the diagnosis of astrocytes and oligodendrogliomas.
The test had “high analytical sensitivity, specificity and accuracy,” the team said.
“A non-invasive and inexpensive method for early detection of brain tumors can help people in whom brain biopsy or surgical resection of the tumor is not possible due to the location of the tumor or other limitations. With this technology, the diagnosis of inaccessible tumors will become possible.” – says Dr. Nelofer Syed, head of the Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Research.
Scientists are already planning further research to confirm the results of the development. If successful, patients will be able to use the test in two years.
