Over the year, road accidents and the death rate have increased significantly in Ukraine

In 2023, the number of road accidents in Ukraine increased by a quarter, compared to 2022. Mortality due to such car accidents increased by 9%.

Traffic accident statistics in Ukraine were published by the Patrol Police. Over 50% of all fatal accidents are attributed to speeding by law enforcement officers.

During the year, there were 23,462 traffic accidents with fatalities or injuries. 3,053 people died and 29,502 people were injured. 103 people died in Kyiv“, the patrolmen say.

As analyzed in the “About Mobility” community, other common causes of fatal traffic accidents are violation of maneuvering rules (16%) and crossing the road at an unspecified place (5%) and crossing into the oncoming traffic lane (5%).

Most deaths on roads near populated areas were recorded in the following areas:

  • Dnipropetrovsk – 191 cases;
  • Lvivska – 126 cases;
  • Kharkivska – 120 cases.

The largest number among all accidents is the collision of cars (41%). In second place is hitting pedestrians (27%), and in third place is hitting an obstacle (12%).

Almost a quarter of all traffic accidents occurred between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
