In the USA, the incubator with flamingo eggs on the plane failed: the chicks were saved in an unexpected way

In the USA, during the transportation of flamingo eggs by plane, the incubator stopped working. The chicks were saved by the flight attendant and passengers – they acted promptly.

The incident happened during the transfer of six eggs between the zoos of Atlanta and Woodland Park in Seattle (Washington), CNN writes

A zookeeper had to transport six eggs in a portable incubator. But during the flight, the device stopped working for unknown reasons. The man asked the flight attendant to “help warm up the flamingo eggs.”

The woman wasted no time: she found rubber gloves and began to fill them with hot water. They made a “warm nest” in which the eggs were laid.

The passengers of the plane were not left behind either: they began to offer their coats and scarves to additionally warm the eggs of the birds.

When the water in the gloves cooled down, the flight attendant replaced them with new ones.

According to Woodland Park Zoo Manager Joanna Klass, the flamingo eggs would not have survived the five-hour flight in the malfunctioning portable incubator.

Zoo employees say that the flight attendant’s actions and the help of other passengers saved the flamingo eggs, which hatched into healthy birds the next month.

A few months after the event, the flight attendant called from the zoo and invited her to meet the flamingos she had saved. She was able to give a name to one of them. The male was named “Sunny” – in honor of the woman’s recently born granddaughter.

We will remind you that earlier we wrote that the short-eared owl chicks, which were rescued by marines, were released.
