During excavations in the province of Kerman in the southeast of Iran, archaeologists discovered a dark red lipstick case from the Bronze Age.
In a study published in the journal Nature, it is stated that the found thing dates back to the period between 2000 and 1600 BC, writes Arkeonews.
As archaeologists note, the elegant shape of the bottle resembles modern lipstick tubes.
Bronze Age lipstick contained red substance mineral components such as hematite, manganese oxide, and brownite. They were mixed with galena, vegetable waxes and other organic substances. These combinations resemble the ingredients of modern lipsticks.

The discovery, dated to the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC, provides valuable information about the ancient civilization of Markashi, mentioned in the cuneiform texts of Mesopotamia at that time.
As scientists note, it was still known about makeup products created 4-5 thousand years ago. However, it was usually just eyeshadow and eyeliner, but not lipstick.
Scientists note: the discovery of dark red pigments for lips improves the understanding of ancient cosmetics, because previous archaeological finds talked about the use of only white or light compounds.
According to Dr. Nasir Eskandari, a professor at the University of Tehran, Iranians may have been the first to invent lipstick. However, there is no evidence of this yet.
