A bear from Yampol, which was rescued by the Armed Forces, settled in Scotland

An Asian black bear that barely survived the Russian occupation of Yampol in Donetsk region was successfully relocated to a zoo in Scotland.
The “Five Sisters” zoo became the new home of the bear nicknamed Yampil, writes The Telegraph.
The Ukrainian military rescued a bear in the village of Yampil in Donetsk region in October 2022. Almost all 200 animals from the abandoned private zoo died of starvation or shelling.
Employees of “Five Sisters” learned about the bear from a Belgian animal protection charity, which took care of Yampol in the period between his rescue and the search for a permanent home.

“When we learned about the terrible conditions in which Yampil was, we were simply amazed that he is still alive and wellBrian Curran, owner of Five Sisters Zoo, said.
Curran added that 12-year-old Yampil suffered a concussion when a Russian shell exploded near his cage.
“He was in a terrible condition – five more days, and they would not have been able to save him. Bears, like humans, can experience mental health problems similar to post-traumatic stress disorder after experiencing trauma.
We have the best team to take care of him and help make this period as peaceful as possible“, adds Curran.
The zoo plans to raise £200,000 for a new enclosure and maintenance of Yampil. So far, local businesses and individual benefactors have donated 60,000 sterling.
Now the bear has been placed in a temporary enclosure, where it will be treated until it hibernates.
It will be recalled that at first Yampil underwent rehabilitation at the Lutsk Zoo.
