In Pompeii, archaeologists discovered a black banquet hall, the walls of which are decorated with frescoes with mythological characters associated with the Trojan War.

The room was probably intended for entertainment or conversation during banquets, writes CNN.

The banquet hall, about 15 meters long and 6 meters wide, has black painted walls.

“This was done so that the smoke from the oil lamps would not be visible on them, as people gathered for dinner after sunset, so the flickering light of the lamps gave the effect of movement in the images, especially after a few glasses of good Campagne wine.”– said the director of the archaeological park, Gabriel Zuchtrigel.

The walls of the banquet hall are decorated with frescoes with mythological characters related to the Trojan War.

This fresco depicts Helen’s meeting with Paris, the son of the Trojan king Priam.

It is reported that one of the frescoes depicts the meeting of Helen with Paris, the son of the Trojan king Priam, who is identified by a Greek inscription with his middle name “Alexandros”.

According to Greek mythology, it was the abduction of Helen by Paris from her Greek husband Menelaus that led to the Trojan War.

On another decoration, archaeologists saw a depressed Cassandra, the daughter of the Trojan king Priam, with the god Apollo.

According to legend, Apollo promised Cassandra the gift of prophecy, but because she did not yield to his wishes, he punished her by decreeing that her prophecies would never be believed.

The banquet hall has a door to the courtyard with a long staircase to the second floor.

On the arch of the stairs, archaeologists noticed two pairs of gladiators drawn with a piece of coal, which look like a stylized phallus.

A large pile of building materials was discovered under the arch.

According to the archaeological park, where the ruins of Pompeii are located, there are 1,070 houses in the vicinity, which have more than 13,000 rooms. There are also public and sacred places.

We will remind you that the ancient Greco-Roman city of Pompeii was buried under ash and volcanic glass during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Archaeologists have been excavating it since the 1700s.

We used to reportedthat the skeletons of two 50-year-old men were found in Pompeii.
